There are a couple of steps involved in this process! Pay close
attention so you aren't hit with additional fees and delays.
1) You'll first need to secure the space on a cargo ship by working with a
carrier (Matson, for example)
2) Then you'll need to rent the container - this can be done either
through a container leasing company or the carrier itself (containers
owned by carriers are called COC - carrier owned container).
3) With the container rented, you'll have to arrange for it to be
transported to a loading location and load the goods into it, or load it
at the port directly. If there is additional space, we recommend you fill
it with loose wood (called dunnage)
4) You'll be responsible for
customs documentation, as well as sealing the container and documenting
the identification number.
5) It is then your responsibility to arrange delivery of the container is
at the port a few days before the ship leaves.
6) Once the container makes it through import customs at the Port,
you'll need to arrange for a trucking company to pick up your
container at the port, and deliver it to your warehouse or retail store
location, unload the contents, and return the container back to the port.
Please be aware that you may face significant delays and fees if any of
these steps are not done correctly!
