COVID, COVID, and COVID!

We know you're tired of hearing about it, and we're definitely
tired of talking about it! Unfortunately the reality is that logistics is still heavily impacted by
outbreaks at ports and a reduced number of flights.
Prior to the pandemic, air freight
rates were available for around US$ 7.00/kg during peak season (heavy shipping volume), and around
US$ 4.50 during slow season (significantly less shipping volume). At COVID's peak we were
seeing close to US$ 20.00/kg! Nowadays pricing is floating in the US$12.00/kg range depending on
delivery time and whether tax and duty are rolled into the price. Ocean freight saw a less extreme
increase but was nonetheless seeing significant price increases as well.
This depends on your shipping
                        channel.
Traditional air freight will take between 10 and 20 days, depending
on the number of stops the plane takes. Fast channels are between 10 and 15 days, and slow channels
are between 15 and 20 days.
Express courier will take between 5 and 12 days, depending on
                    the provider.
Traditional ocean freight can take anywhere from 25 and 70 days, depending
on the number of stops. See our guaranteed delivery times offer HERE.

As is often the case, it
                        depends!
Depending on what your business needs, ocean freight or air
freight (or a combination of the two!) makes sense. Generally, if you are more sensitive to price
and can wait longer, ocean freight makes sense. When you are more sensitive to waiting and are
willing to spend more, air freight makes sense.
In some cases, it makes sense to ship a
small volume of goods by air to make sure there is available inventory, and have a larger ocean
shipment on the way for future purchases. We wrote a blog about choosing between air and ocean
                    freight HERE.
